Samsung Galaxy S8 Bixby assistant unveiled as Alexa rival

Samsung Galaxy S8 , it’s a new way to interact with your phone, and the company’s response to the smart assistant Alexa from Amazon.Bixby will be present in the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus – which will be launched on March 29 – but the wizard will not be exclusive to both handsets.Samsung offers a seamless and intuitive experience with Bixby, something different from the solutions already on the market, with the aim of reducing friction with voice commands and requiring few users to return to the use of the touch screen .

The announcement also revealed that the new Galaxy S8 (and we assume S8 Plus as well) will have a dedicated Bixby button, allowing you to launch the wizard at any time – and save you precious seconds according to Samsung. That’s all very well, but until we can put Samsung Bixby through his footsteps, we do not jump to conclusions.Only the first step¬†Bixby is still a lot of work in progress however, with Samsung saying “Bixby will be our first step in a journey to completely open up new ways to interact with your phone.”At the launch of the Galaxy S8, a subset of pre-installed applications will be Bixby-enabled. This set will continue to grow over time.”

This means that Bixby could be quite limited when launching, which can make it more difficult to convince consumers of its use because they will be hoping for an offer of features such as Amazon Alexa on the Echo and Echo Dot.Everything is not lost because Samsung says “Our plan is to possibly release a tool (SDK) to allow third-party developers to make their Bixby applications and services easily,” but it could take some time to materialize. No “Bixby, play Megadeath on Spotify” or “Bixby, turn on my salon lights” then.As the Samsung Galaxy S8 will run Android, Samsung also has the Google Wizard at its disposal, which itself offers a similar service to compete with the likes of Siri, Alexa and now Bixby.

It is strange then that it is considered appropriate to further develop its own offer but that could well play in the hands of Samsung when it comes to apply it to its other range of devices.Samsung says Bixby will find its way into a host of devices, from air conditioners to televisions – basically your entire home could be Bixby enabled in the future if you give yourself to Samsung.
